The Reading Rooms B&B can easily accommodate your fishing break for those expert in the art of fishing or for those who are completely new, whether you fancy trying trout fishing in a Northumberland lake or salmon fishing on the river Tyne. If you want to be shown the ropes or polish existing skills why not arrange a day with the Hardy's of Alnwick fishing tutor?
Day tickets are available at local venues including Langley dam, Bolam Lake, Hallington Reservoirs & Sweethope Lough.
Langley dam is a 14 acre lake which lies 8 miles west of Hexham, just off the A69 on the B6305. The fish are stocked regularly from 2lb up and boy can they fight. If you don't get a boat then you'll need waders for most parts. There is a lodge with car park and toilet facilities, all tidily kept. You can hire rods and they have a few bits of kit for sale.
Ask about the river Tyne fishing, day tickets available on the South Tyne.
Facilities:
We have a drying room, storage for equipment and Gutting facilities. Large sink and very sharp knives although Gill probably won't volunteer to do this for you she will provide freezer space.
There is Bywell fish and game smokery nearby - where fish can be dropped off without being gutted and left for a few days to get smoked or cured to your own taste. If you are leaving before the process is over they will send it to anywhere in the UK.
There are more fishing links on our attractions page.
If you have come to accompany a fisherman there is lots to see and do. The Reading Rooms is well equipped with information about the local area and Gill will be more than happy to make suggestions about what to do. Some of the attractions are Hadrian's Wall, Vindolanda, National Trust Properties, Newcastle City Centre and Gateshead Metro Centre, Alnwick Gardens, Beamish Museum, Sunderland Museum, Art Gallery and Winter Gardens and the City of Durham are all within an hours drive making Haydon Bridge the ideal venue for a short break. See our attractions page for more details.
