The Reading Rooms is less than six miles from Vindolanda. Established in 1970 with annual excavations the discoveries keep coming. Famous for the wooden writing tablets discovered here and the many other treasures unearthed. A good selection of which are displayed at the on-site Chesterholm Museum.

The future for Vindolanda is growing with the purchase of Codley Gate adjoining the existing land. Also the recent BBC The Flying Archaeologist programme entitled 'Hadrian's Wall: Life on the Frontier' highlighted all the until now undiscovered remains in the local area.
